We love having runners at Kelso and the track’s return to action this afternoon, together with Perth’s finale meeting next week, really does signify that the main jumps season is just around the corner.
We have three runners today, starting off with Elmono in the 2m5f handicap chase. He hasn’t quite been at his best of late, but this is a significant drop in class and his latest third at…
We have been busy at the sales this week, with the camper van making trips to both Doncaster and Yorton Farm in Wales in the search for new talent.
First stop was Doncaster on Wednesday for the Goffs UK September Horses In Training Sale. Accompanied by three members of the Tay Valley Chasers, Jim, Ann and Yvonne, we were delighted to purchase the five-year-old Return Fire for the popular…
It was great to get back amongst the winners at Perth last Sunday as Red Missile made a successful return to hurdles in the 2m maiden. Given a fantastic ride by Derek, he was momentarily outpaced when the leader kicked turning into the straight, but once finding his stride he really powered home, coming away on the run-in to score by 6½ lengths. Now a winner both on the Flat and over hurdles this…
Perth kicks off a double-header of action this afternoon and we have four runners spread across the two-day meeting.
We start with Don’t Look Back who makes his hurdling debut in the opening juvenile event. Formerly with Richard Hughes, he showed promise in seven races on the Flat, achieving his best result when third over an extended mile at Windsor. He has settled in well, but experience…
We failed to have a winner at either Cartmel or Hexham earlier this week but there were some promising performances from our runners with Elmono and Methodtothemadness both claiming third. It was a clear step back in the right direction from the pair of them with Methodtothemadness going down by just three lengths in a close finish and we are full of hope that they will be able to build on their…
Our jumps horses are just beginning to step up a gear and we have seven runners across the next two days, starting with Elmono at Cartmel this afternoon. A winner at the course last summer, he has been a little below form the last twice, but we are optimistic that the fitting of the first-time tongue tie will help him to take a step back in the right direction.
The first of our…
And so we partied again.
Our annual owners lunch took place again last Sunday and saw a huge turnout of enthusiastic owners. The team here worked extra hard in the days leading up to the party, with a logistical challenge of moving horses between the yard, and formulating lists and more lists to make the day run smoothly.
Cameron, our head lad at Arlary had the yard looking immaculate,…
We now have most of our autumn and winter horses back in work and the first main batch has their first piece of work tomorrow. They have already covered many miles in trot and steady canter and are just where we want them at this time of year. Most are aimed at the end of September and along with our owners and Paul McIvor, our race planner, we have started to make some initial race plans.
With jump racing taking a near two-week summer break, we only have a couple of runners on the Flat this week, with Engles Rock taking her chance at Musselburgh this afternoon and Ballyare following suit at Ayr tomorrow evening.
Engles Rock’s season has been rather up and down to this point, but if she reproduces the form of her second-place finishes at both Doncaster and Ayr, she…
With Elmono unfortunately a late absentee at Perth this evening we are down to seven runners across the two-day meeting where the forecast for rain will be good news for some but a hindrance for others.
One who will appreciate any rain that falls is Petite Rhapsody who lines up in the 2m novice hurdle that opens Tuesday’s action. He ran well over course and distance to be third…
